MANCALA

SHORT FILM

TWO HOUSEMATES LEFT STRANDED OVER LOCKDOWN AND CONFINED TO EACH OTHER'S COMPANY OPEN THEIR MINDS TO THEIR PERSONAL PHILOSOPHIES OF THE OTHER, ENABLING THEIR FRIENDSHIP TO DEVELOP INTO TERRITORIES UNCHARTERED.

Filmed on a budget of less than £500 in the Summer of 2020, Mancala tells the story of Theo and Marie, two University housemates whose lives, passions and perspectives coincide in beautiful and unexpected ways after being left stranded in Bristol during the summer break.

Directed by Abraham Dein, Mancala was the first short film to come from up-and-coming Bristol production company, Red Hat Productions LTD, and kickstarted the production of an eclectic roster of independent films produced between 2020 and 2022.

In a review from Epigram magazine, a critic wrote:

"Mancala breaks through the stasis and reminds us of the beauty of stripping back to a room, a board game, and a good old chat about life."

Mancala was awarded the BEST SHORT FILM UNDER $5000 at the Monkey Bread Tree Awards 2021 and the BEST STUDENT FILM at the Birmingham Film and Television Festival 2022.
